Description
Barénia is Christine Nagel's debut chypre for Hermès, launched in 2024 and named after the house's storied vegetable-tanned leather. The fragrance translates the sensory memory of warm, supple leather into an olfactive composition of great refinement.
The opening is defined by butterfly lily — a creamy, slightly tropical floral that projects warmth and softness from the first spray. It is an unexpected top note that immediately separates Barénia from conventional chypres.
Miracle berry adds a gently sour-sweet nuance at the heart, disrupting the otherwise earthy progression in a pleasing and contemporary way.
Oakwood and dense patchouli ground the composition in the chypre tradition: mossy, resinous, with that characteristic warmth of aged wood and tanned hide. For wholesale perfume buyers, Barénia represents the luxury niche segment at its most credible.
