Description
The Library Collection from Amouage presents fragrances as olfactory manuscripts — each a coded message from perfumer to wearer. Opus V Woods Symphony, created by Jacques Cavallier Belletrud in 2011, is one of the most conceptually rich entries in this series: a meditation on the infinite forest of the internet as a metaphor for the boundless flow of knowledge.
The opening of orris absolute and rum is immediately distinctive — powdery, slightly boozy, warm and resinous in a way that few contemporary masculine fragrances dare. Iris root (orris) is one of the most expensive and complex ingredients in perfumery, and Cavallier uses it here with rare confidence and generosity.
The heart of orris concrete, Bulgarian rose, and jasmine deepens the floral dimension while maintaining the wooded, intellectual character of the composition. Then the base of oud, civet, and dry wood accord anchors everything with earthy, animal resonance. The result is a Library fragrance that rewards patience and attention — typical of the house that created it.
